cabinets looking great/outside stuff

Here's a Saturday morning update of what's been going on this week:

The guys from McCurry's continued with our cabinet installation. They've adjusted hinges and drawer slides so that everything works smoothly, put on the knobs and drawer pulls, and have done the final touch-up work. They have been great about paying attention to every little detail and getting it just right.

We met with Mike Lutz from Countertop Specialists on Wednesday afternoon. (I think this makes "Mike" #5 for this project...) He brought samples, measured, and gave us an estimate. We chose to have quartz composite countertops in the color on the right. They're a solid surface like Corian, but they have particles of quartz in them. They don't have to be sealed like granite. He's coming out this afternoon to make a template of our kitchen. He said it'll take about 10 days to fabricate our countertop & then they'll come out and install it.

Here are Paul & Jeff installing the cabinets in our master bath. They were close to being finished, but it was getting dark and cold, so they'll come back Monday morning to finish up. These 2 cabinets have a furniture look - they are just the look I was after. The cabinet next to the shower has a slide-out laundry hamper that will be really convenient. (Thanks for the idea, Shelly.) You can also see Walton & Kyle's finished tile in the first picture. There will be pedestal sinks on either side of the tower.

The stone for the front of the house & foundation was delivered this week. I haven't asked when they're going to put it up, but the guy who is going to do the job is probably named Mike.

Finally, Hogan's Septic put in the septic tank yesterday. Not pretty like the cabinets, but very necessary. Walton said they didn't dig the trenches for the chamber system (?) because the county wasn't doing inspections yesterday. They didn't want to dig them and leave them open over the weekend in case of rain, so they'll finish Monday. Too bad they have to use an inferior tractor, huh Dad?

Today, I'm going to help Walton with the baseboard & crown molding. (it's o.k., you can laugh.) We'll be sure to take pictures.
