5 months old

Miss Anslie Alise is 5 months old today!  She is a little chatterbox - she loves to "talk" to us and makes all kinds of fun noises.  She is very entertained by her range of squeaks and squeals.  At 5 months, Anslie weighs 13 lbs, 8 oz and is 24 inches long.  She has just now outgrown size 1 diapers and started wearing size 2, and I've had to put away some of her 0-3 month clothes and switch to 3-6 month size.

Anslie loves to chew on her fingers and she drools constantly.  We have finally convinced her that her pacifier is a good thing, and she doesn't try to suck her thumb any more.  She has figured out how to reach up and pull her pacifier out of her mouth, and will occasionally put it back in her mouth without help.  (But most of the time she drops it and one of us has to get it for her...)

She is still taking 6 ounces of formula 4 times a day.  Our pediatrician has given her the o.k. to start on rice cereal, but she is not ready for it yet.  She just pushes it out of her mouth and all of it ends up on her bib.  We will try again in a week or two and see if she's ready.  She is getting over her first ear infection (in *both* ears - poor baby), so I hope she'll be more enthusiastic about trying baby food once she is feeling 100% like herself again.

We love our sweet girl!  It is such a joy to watch her grow and learn new things.

He has made His wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.

Snow Tubing

Walton, Kyle, & Will headed in to Sugar Mountain for some twilight snow tubing this evening. They had a blast together and got in lots of runs because the crowds were so light.

Anslie and I stayed at the cabin and enjoyed this:

On the agenda for tomorrow: snowboard lessons for the boys and skiing for Walton; more sweet time together for Anslie and I. I am NOT going to be excited to be away from her when we go back to school next week!

Sugar Mountain

We are in Sugar Mountain, NC for a few days of family fun.  It started snowing about an hour before we arrived, and it hasn't stopped yet.  (It is 8 p.m. now.)  It is absolutely beautiful!   Walton had to get out and do some shoveling before we could carry our things in from the car.

Anslie barely made a peep on the way here.  She slept most of the time, and rode happily along when she wasn't asleep.  She is snoozing on Walton's lap in front of the fireplace right now.  Such a sweet baby.

There is plenty of snow for all kinds of winter fun.  Tubing is on the agenda for tomorrow for the Allen guys.  The Allen girls will be happy to stay in and enjoy the fire and the Winter Olympics.

snow day!

We had a rare 4" of snow on Friday.  So beautiful and such fun!  Walton was finishing up a weeklong mission trip in Jamaica, so he wasn't here to enjoy it with us.  The boys had their friends Cole and Ben over and our family friend Vicki joined us.   She calls our backyard "Lambeau Field" and gets out there to throw the football with the boys when it snows.

The boys and Anslie bundled up in the snow.
Kyle made this tiny snowman just for her. So cute!

I love to see this snowy view of our home - beautiful.

The boys discovered that the hill at the side of the driveway was a great sliding spot - even without sleds.

This snowman only lasted for a few minutes - the boys tackled him soon after I took this picture.

After everyone came in and warmed up, we watched the Olympic opening ceremonies.  Vicki brought the Olympic rings from her classroom to add to the party atmosphere.  Fun!

Our frosty woods on Saturday morning.  The snow started melting and falling off the trees very quickly.  Most of it was gone by late afternoon.
