no pictures

There are no pics today because no work has been done on the siding today. They crew did not show up at our house as expected this a.m. Walton happened to run into Aaron (the boss) at Chick-Fil-A at lunchtime, and he said they've gotten hung up finishing another job. They might start tomorrow, or possibly not until Thursday. :-\

update

We had terrible weather at the end of last week, so the siding crew was not able to start work. (They didn't even deliver the Hardiplank until today so it wouldn't sit out in the rain.) Walton and Michael were working at the house when the guy came with the big truck to deliver all of the siding & exterior trim materials. As he was taking some of it off the truck with a big forklift, Michael said to Walton "Man, it wouldn't be good if he dropped that stuff." You can guess what happened next - the pallet he was lifting collapsed and kaboom! He dropped it. So he had to stack that whole pile by hand. He took the rest off a stack at a time instead of trying to do a whole pallet at once.

Walton decided to postpone the spray foam insulation until the siding is done. He was concerned that the siding crew might unintentionally nail into some of the plumbing or electrical work. It would be hard to fix if the insulation was already in place.

After 3 tries (and almost 2 months), Williams Brothers finally delivered the correct door for our mudroom. Walton installed it today. It looks great. Maybe we should order the front door now so they'll deliver the one we choose by the time the house is almost done. ;-)

I didn't have the camera with me when I went by the house today, but I'll take it tomorrow and get some shots of the siding going on and try to post them tomorrow night.

the main water line

A company called All-Pro ran the main water lines from the water meter by the road all the way down our driveway this weekend. There are two sets of pipes in the pictures - one set will go to the Frank's house and one set will go to ours. The crew ran into what Dave and Walton have called "a piece of Stone Mountain" as they hit the highest point in the driveway. (Dave also said that he is going to make Susan's granite countertops for the kitchen from the stone on their property.....)

Here is a picture of the trench for the beginning of our water lines at the meter. We chose the larger of the two pipe options the Henry County Water Authority gave us so we would have good water pressure.

Here's the trench at the top of the driveway w/ the pipes ready to go in.

It's interesting to see how the soil is very red in some areas, and not so red in others.

Pulling wire

Walton, his brother-in-law Stuart, nephew Michael, and Dave Frank got most of the house wired this weekend. They were able to complete all of the standard outlets, ceiling receptacles for fans and light fixtures, and switches as well as setting up the main breaker box. Here are Walton and Michael pulling some wire in the bonus room.

Walton and Dave put up this big board (I don't know the right name for it....) while they were waiting for Stuart to arrive Friday morning. It's what the deck will be attached to.

Walton, Michael, and Dave spent the day today running the "big" wire for the appliances and HVAC system. I talked to Walton after school this afternoon and he said they were very close to being done.

Walton met with the subcontractor who will put on our cement board siding yesterday. His name is Aaron Kuhn. They are planning to get started on the siding this week. I forgot to ask Walton if the siding guys were there today, but I'm guessing they probably weren't because it rained most of the day.

I get to meet with Shelly Bruce, our kitchen planner from McCurry's at the new house on Thursday afternoon. She's going to do some field measurements and finalize some details for the kitchen cabinets.

Finally, here are a few other pictures of work that was completed last week:

The retaining wall we didn't plan for.

Ductwork in the basement.

The main air handler in the basement.

a few pictures

These aren't too exciting to look at, but it's important stuff.

The guest room shower/tub. If you ever come to visit us, this is your bathroom.

The boys' shower upstairs (no tub for them - they are manly men now.) We'll put a shower door on this unit, not a curtain.

The HVAC unit upstairs.

Some air vents upstairs

and ductwork waiting to be installed.

The heating and air guys have a little bit of work left to finish this week. Our brother-in-law Stuart is coming to help Walton do the wiring next weekend.

retaining wall and duct work

This week, Jimmy Vickers' crew started installing the duct work for the HVAC system. The heat pump unit has been installed in the attic, and another one will have to go in the basement later in the week. The attic unit will take care of the boys' room and the bonus room - the larger basement unit will be for the main living area.

Andy and his helper have finished all of the rough plumbing, and our landscaper friend Shane Smith built the retaining wall next to the mudroom door today. I'll go out later in the week and take some pictures of the new developments.
